Make a Play Day
An amazing day where your pupils bring a book to life and learn and perform an unforgettable show. Designed by Mike Redwood and Steve Richards both trained Theatre directors (Academy of Live and Recorded Arts and Academy of Science of Acting and Directing)
Splats have been producing and directing shows in the West End and countrywide for over 15 years. Our production of Wind in the Willows premiered at the Bloomsbury theatre London. It is this quality of production of the professional theatre that we have brought to our Make a play days. We believe the discipline and commitment needed to entertain an audience and put them first is an invaluable skills for your pupils to learn.
Pupils will also improve their confidence, communication skills, reading and listening, concentration and self expression
All our days come with Splats Project Packs which will help you on the day and give you a terms worth of ideas for continued THEMED and PROJECT WORK
The Day
The day begins with an assembly where our teacher/director introduces the pupils to the day. There are 4 scenes in total so we can work with 4 classes with a maximum of 35 in each class. One class at a time learns its own scene with our teacher whilst the others make props/scenery in their classroom for the final show. As three of the scenes will be new to each class, pupils can perform their own scene in front of an audience of children in the show. You can also invite staff, parents or the whole school along as well.
The Show
The shows we have designed, with the help or our working actors and directors who teach the days, are so well planned, choreographed and scripted that the pupils can learn the scene in as little as one lesson of 50 minutes. We have found that by attaching movements to the words spoken by them or read by our director/ narrator the pupils can remember an amazing amount - add a sense of fun and imagination and it becomes even more effective. A show that you would expect to take weeks to rehearse can be done in a day. It also allows for great spontaneity and freedom as pupils don't have time to see any obstacles to them performing. There is no time for nerves or it becoming too big a deal as before they know it they are on stage performing. Often those pupils who you would never expect too achieve results and will put on a performance they and you will remember for the rest of their time at the school.

"The children enjoyed the day thoroughly. The information pack that was sent beforehand was very useful as staff knew what was happening and what they needed to do. Mark was brilliant with the children; he directed them carefully and encouraged them along the way. The performance at the end of the day was very successful. The Yr 5’s enjoyed performing the show and the rest of the Upper School enjoyed watching it. Thank you very much for doing such a brilliant job!"
